August Garden

My tallest sunflower has bloomed.

The lemon trees are just slightly bigger.

The corn is all finished and the beans are just starting.

These are the second time I'm planting the cucumbers.  They did not like being behind the corn.

These are apple trees. 

Nicole makes me save the seeds from everything.  Out of a dozen seeds we only had two germinate.  We do have a peach seed I think we will plant soon.

I love bell peppers.

garden update

Lemon tree seedlings.  

I don't know what we are going to do with these.  I had some lemons and just figured I would see if they would grow.  I'll move them inside before it gets to cold.

My sunflower plants.  I really don't want the tallest one to bloom yet.  I know when it does the weight will pull it down.  I really wanted it grow taller than the house.  Oh so close.

My broccoli plants in this bed just started to bloom.  We also have some smaller broccoli behind the corn. 

Our tomatoes really just started to turn.  We have had a few but something has been eating them before we could.

I had pulled out our potato plants and put in a few cucumbers.  I also planted carrots and lettuce in the empty squares.  They are just starting to pop up.

We picked our first ears of corn today.  It looks great and tasted even better.  I wish I could have grown more and have had enough to freeze some.

I am amazed she could still eat it without her two front teeth but she did a pretty good job.

It a hot hot day today

I made the kids come outside today while I was working in the garden.  I try to make them go outside everyday.  I tried to get them interesting in digging for potatoes, but they didn't want to use their hands.  They wanted to bring out the big shovel and make a huge mess.  Then I sent them on a hunt for the tomato horn worm that I knew had to be in there somewhere.  They finally found him and the worm only held their attention for a few minutes before they decided it was just to hot out.  As Michael was walking back in the door I heard him say "I think I'm going to go hide in the freezer for awhile."

This is the first year that I have been able to plant anything in the ground in a very long time.

Our June garden Beds

Front Bed # 1

 

 This bed has potatoes along the front.  Peppers through out and the empty squares have just been planted with herbs.  I also have one eggplant in here.

                                                                 Middle Bed #2

This bed has a lot going on.  This one is mostly for tomatoes but we also have broccoli, peas, carrots, beets, and lettuce.  I think all my squares are filled on this bed now.

 

Back Bed #3

 This bed I did the three sisters planting.  There is sweet corn, beans squash and zucchini.  I also have three pumpkin plants on the end.  As well as cucumbers started along the very back of the bed.
